Mishima Pond
As the southernmost natural breeding ground for mallard ducks, this reservoir in Maibara, Shiga Prefecture, has been designated a natural monument by the prefectural government. Its clear, cold waters are home to numerous creatures, and various water birds and wild birds migrate here. It is also a famous spot for cherry blossom viewing, and in the spring, the reflection of Mt. Ibuki on the water’s surface and the stunning cherry blossoms present a wonderful sight.
