    【Description】
The hot springs here opened 1,200 years ago. It is thought that the waters well up from a fault and cracks in the Iwai Layer of pyroclastic rock. Of the nine springs here, one flows up on its own and three are assisted with pumps in a centrally managed system. A local custom at the baths involves placing a towel over your head and ladling hot water over it as you sing a traditional song, the "Yukamuri Uta."
