The Mysterious Miyadani Quarry Ruins: Step into Another World Beyond a Tunnel

The Mysterious Miyadani Quarry Ruins: Step into Another World Beyond a Tunnel

It had been the site of stone quarrying since 1887. Miyadani stone is tuff made of solidified volcanic ash. It is characterized by being easy to process and highly fire resistant. During the quarry’s peak, it shipped stone across Japan, but as cement rose in popularity as a construction material, demand for stone decreased, and the quarry eventually closed. After a trek through a mountain path and passing through a tunnel, you will find yourself in a mysterious expanse resembling an ancient ruin. Changing with the season and time of day, the view looks different every visit. When you are in luck, you will catch a glimpse of a clear pond surface glistening an emerald green.
