BIVA Premium Japanese Traditional Art “NOH” Experience in Nishinomiya

Traditional Japanese arts are represented in the world of stage performances with the world's oldest form of theater, "Nohgaku," which consists of "Noh" and "Kyogen" styles. Handed down for over 700 years from the militaristic society of the Muromachi era, Noh is said to be the world's oldest form of existing performing art. It has influenced works in a wide range of theatrical arts including bungaku, kabuki, opera, and modern theater.* Noh was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008, and is actively performed on the stage used in this event. The event itself offers visitors a chance to experience and appreciate the world of Noh via the musical piece "Takasago," performed at the Nishinomiya Noh Gakudo theater in Naruocho in the city of Nishinomiya, Hyogo. Located in a modern building with concrete construction finished in 2017, the theater's interior is a traditional Noh stage made from hinoki cypress. Guests aren't limited to observing from the audience seating, and can don tabi slippers to experience the sliding walk used on the stage, try putting on real Noh masks, and interact with costumes for a more up-close sensory way to encounter the depth of the world of Noh.
