Hike up Mt. Mitoku (Japan Heritage)
According to legend, in 706 A.D., En no Gyoja came to this peak under white clouds, carved out a cave, and enshrined this hall here with his divine powers. This structure is the very core of the “eyes” in “Cleansing the six senses.” A symbol of Mt. Mitoku, built on a precipitous cliff: the construction method remains a mystery to this day. A statue of Zao Gongen, representing faith, is installed and the destination for completing the “Cleansing of the Six Senses” pilgrimage.
