In the past, Mima City was a major umbrella producer that shipped out large quantities of Japanese umbrellas. In this tour, you can visit Shikoku's only remaining Japanese umbrella production workshop to try out the finishing process under the direct oversight of Japanese umbrella craftspeople using traditional techniques. You can take the finished umbrella home with you as a souvenir. Your place of lodging will be Paysage Moriguchi, a hotel in an old, remodeled Japanese-style house located in the Wakimachi-minamimachi area famous for its townscape of distinctive short roof pillars called "udatsu." Dinner will be an Italian course meal at the popular restaurant Punta in the same area. [Plan Details] Day 1: Meet at 1:00 p.m. at Wamei Kobo workshop (Mima Kankou Bureau) for the Japanese umbrella activity (using washi Japanese paper) - 120 min. This is followed by a tour of the Wakimachi-minamimachi area. Check in to the Paysage Moriguchi hotel. Dinner at Punta. Day 2: Breakfast at the hotel. After checking out of the hotel, travel to the Japanese umbrella workshop for the second day of the umbrella-making activity (adding the stretchers and canopy) - 90 min. After your umbrella is finished, head back to Wakimachi-minamimachi to take commemorative photos with the instructors and conclude the activity.
