Private ART & CRAFT Tour in Echizen Pottery Village
First created in the Heian period, Echizenyaki ware is a product of one of the so-called Six Ancient Kilns that have continued making pottery to the present day. Clay with high iron content has a distinctive dark brown color after being fired. In this tour, we will be your guide to workshops that produce Echizenyaki ware ceramics. We will also visit Echizen Pottery Village, where we will view pieces by Taro Okamoto and other artists, and then to the Echizen Old Kiln Museum to learn about the history of Echizenyaki ware. *The tour may visit a kiln other than that of the workshop shown in the photo. The Echizen Old Kiln Museum opened to the public in 2017. In addition to Echizenyaki exhibits, the museum is also set up alongside an authentic tea room and the former Mizuno family home, a reconstruction of an old Japanese-style home in Fukui.
