Ama fishing experience with Ama divers: Catch and taste “Gangase”!
Ama diving is a traditional practice dating back over two thousand years. The Ise-Shima region is home to the largest number of ama (female free divers) in Japan, and ama culture has flourished here since ancient times. Take a dive with a working Ise-Shima ama diver and experience it for yourself. As well as learning about the history of how Ama divers have coexisted with the ocean, you will be contributing to marine conservation by gathering black long-spined sea urchins, which pose an environmental problem in the region. After the ama diving experience, taste the black long-spined sea urchin, which is a rare delicacy.
